Ballet & Science: Ever the Twain Shall Meet!

Not too long ago, Sports Medicine was in its infancy. Physiotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, and other treatments were pretty much relegated to the areas of accidents and rehabilitation, not sports or dance.

Fortunately, times have changed. Now all major dance companies have physiotherapists on staff. Recently I learned scientists in the UK are joining with the Royal Ballet School to unlock advances in performance science in an exciting new project. https://www.gramilano.com/2023/08/scientists-join-royal-ballet-school/

But one doesn’t need to be a professional dancer to enjoy the benefits of what sports medicine clinics have to offer.

Any dance student who suffers an injury should seek immediate treatment by a sports medicine practitioner. Then healing can happen more quickly and effectively and may prevent long-term injuries.

As well, then one can get back to doing what one loves – dancing!
